TQ How to make a needle felting little black cat

My very first needle felting project of a cat and my 3rd mini project overall. Needle felting is really such an interesting craft and hobby. I came to know about this when I started a new hobby on resin art and jewelry. I've always been a fan of art and craft since young and love using paint brushes, needles and tools.

And all the needle felting materials look so lovely together. I've also researched on Pinterest what are the various ways to store the lovely wool and this is my preference - using glass containers with bamboo wood covers to sort out the different colors of wool. Aren't they pretty?

After my third project here, it becomes very apparent to me that needle felting is not exactly something for everyone. If you want to make something simple, then, yes - anyone can make something out with the wool felting. But if you want to make it as a hobby and gradually be good at it, you must definitely have patience.... a lot of patience.

Needle felting requires a lot of patience as it is a slow craft. You cannot rush it. Even for a very simple, singular color object that you make, you will take at least 30min from beginning to end to make a very small one.

I'm considered quite an impatient person as I love to do things fast. But thankfully, as I enjoy the process of the needle felting, I am able to pick up this craft. It is very interesting to see a lump of wool, slowly evolving and becoming a 'thing' that you create. And to some extend, like using clay to make pottery, you can add or remove small parts as you craft the needle felting object.

Like in this project, I've been adjusting the little black cat's cheeks and head shape throughout, until I'm happy with the 3D shape. That aspect is extremely fun and satisfying for me.

This Little Black Cat actually took me about 4 hours to make. By the time I finished, my right shoulder and arm was aching. Haha.... But it could also be due to the shoulder injury I suffered 2 years ago, my right shoulder and arm are not too strong for continuous activity.

I had cut the full How-To video into a much shorter version above. I wonder if viewers are interested to see the detailing more, instead of me fast-forwarding the process.

I watched a lot of needle felting videos to learn some tips and to get more inspirations. Many crafters have mentioned that you should prepare more needles as needles will break easily. I had a smooth and easy experience with my earlier 2 projects, hence I was thinking it must depend on how you handle the needle.

Guess how many needles I broke while making this cat?

I broke 3 needles. Yup, 3.

Hahaha....

Anyways, when I finished Little Black Cat and showed to my 2 boys, they praised me and said that this is cute and nice. I'm happy with that already. I hope that if you are considering or have also just started on needle felting, you might find some inspirations from this video.
