TQ How to make a cute customized frame with resin charms and cabochons

Today is my birthday!!! Yipee!!! I can't believe it! I'm 41 years old!!! Omg!!! I'm 41, but I don't feel 41 at all. I'm a mother of 2 boys but in my heart I always feel like I'm 30, or at least that's how I am thinking about myself... Haha... though the age will really show when I have to run after my boys... Big difference for a 41 year old body.

So I thought I'm going to blog about a very sweet creation I just completed today and it's a first for me, to make my own eye frames.... the Harajuku style!

I love cute and unique frames as fashion accessories or mood changer. I can't even remember how many pairs of shades and frames I currently own. And I have some really whacky ones as well as I'm not afraid to express my love for loud and interesting designs... I was so big on Cosplay when I was younger (I can't fit into the cosplay clothes anymore... *SAD*... Another physical realization that I'm 41 and a mother of 2) and I'm a huge fan of KPop still... GDragon started my love on KPop and Fashion. You can tell the 'loudness' I can go from there...

I used to own a very cool black frames with some cute characters on it (Like Alice in Wonderland style) that I had found from a local designer in Hong Kong. Bought it for about $150 and I broke it. I bought it years ago and I was trying to find pictures of videos of me wearing it through my old albums. Finally managed to grab a video when I was wearing it at the Universal Studios at Osaka during a company trip years ago... Like 2014...

Since I broke it and I couldn't fix it, I’ve tried to search online but I couldn’t find something close to what I like. So recently I thought, maybe I can try making it myself for fun. I also tried to search online via YouTube to see if there are videos of other crafters personalizing their own eye frames; wanted to find some inspirations and like-minded folks. But I couldn't really find anything close to what I had pictured in my mind. Now that I'm residing in United States, it seems like the preference here would be more down-to-earth style; earthy tones or black frames are the norm. The personalized or customized frames tend to be along the line of the 'Bling-bling' style.

Having lived in Asia the most part of my life; born & raised in Singapore; started my marketing career there; went on a wild and robust journey moving to Shanghai to work on marketing & innovation; which gave me lots of opportunities to travel the world and from one of the trips to Miami, that's where I actually met my husband, whom is from South Korea! So why all these blabbering... I think even though I have a very open mind and traveled quite a bit, deep-down inside I'm still largely influenced by asian cultures including how I'm creating my resin work.

So this is the very first customized frame I’ve created. It’s more of a very girly and candy pop style. It's kind of very 'Harajuku'... Harajuku style is like a mix of all the well-known Japanese sub-styles like Sweet Lolita (This Candy Pop Frames is very lolita in my opinion). Gothic Lolita, Visual Kei, Cosplay, Decora, Gyaru, cutesy fairy kei and punk rock clothing. That's 'Harajuku' for you.

I took about an hour to make the whole thing, it wasn’t too complicated and I cut a 5min video to share how I created it. It's really not too complicated. Hope you like it!!! The finished product can also be found at my site https://thetravelquintessential.com/products/candy-pop-frames

Let's talk about the materials you'll need if you want to try making one for yourself too:

  • UV Resin
  • UV Lamp
  • Resin Colors (Pink, White)
  • Silicon Mold (Any shapes that you want to use to add to your frames)
  • Silicon Sticks
  • Silicon Cups
  • Any charms or cabochons
  • And an eye frame of your choice!

See? Super simple! Try it! I also made a shorter clip showing all different shots of the frames.

That's all for today... I've blabbered a lot about my history that came to birth for this Candy Pop Eye Frames! Haha... Hope you enjoyed reading and watching the videos!

Love

TQ
