My Son Gabriel's Baptism Ceremony November 23, 2019
My second son's baptism!!! It was not as easy to arrange for Gabriel's baptism as we moved house to another town, and hence we also moved to a nearer parish as a result. We love this new parish, it's very near to our new house and has a huge Korean community and there are many families with kids too. I'm so thankful that God brought us to this beautiful town and allowed us to be able to join this parish.
So by the time we had all settled down and get to arrange for Gabriel's baptism, the ceremony was arranged in Nov of 2019 where Gabriel was already a year old. Actually, as a Catholic, you were supposed to make arrangement as soon as possible for your child to get baptized after he or she was born. Luckily, we had been communicating with the parish and making the necessary arrangements, hence the baptism date got stalled a little till Nov for Gabriel. But it was lovely that even his brother, Michael, could join and witness his baptism together with us. And what luck we had, our cousin from Korea happened to be in town, hence she was also able to join us in this beautiful ceremony.
Gabriel's Baptism Ceremony
- Date: November 23, 2019
- Church: Parish of St Joseph Roman Catholic Church
- Pastor: Fr. Don Bosco Park
Originally, I would love for Gabriel to be able to wear the suit that Michael had worn, I would had loved for the passing down from the big brother. But as Gabriel was over 1 year old (Michael was only 5 months old when he was baptized), the suit was way too small. So I ordered a new suit for Gabriel.

For Gabriel's ceremony, it was not a part of the Sunday missal, instead, it was a ceremony just focused on Baptism. And there were 2 families going through the baptism ceremony together.
I've blogged about my first son's baptism and also explained what I've learnt about the whole Catholic Baptism Ceremony and the meaning of each part of the ritual. You can read more about it if you are interested about the different order of events in a Catholic Baptism Ceremony.
Again, we were all dressed in white to match with Gabriel's outfit. Everyone gathered in the main hall of the church as we all get prepared to start the baptism ceremony. We all stood around the water bath and where the priest will be conducting the ceremony. And we stood for the entire session. Luckily I wasn't in crazy heels as I wasn't expecting that. It was a little different from Michael's baptism ceremony.
The cleansing process was also to pour water over the forehead. But it was November and pretty cold then, the water was probably icy cold too. Gabriel cried when he was cleansed with the water. Haha... A short one, which you can see in the video on top.
And it was so cute, they had a bulletin board in the church, just to announced on the baptism of infants!
This time, I had also brought along our GoPro to record everything behind the scenes. Unfortunately I couldn't find a better location to install the GoPro (Should have brought a stand instead) but still, thought it is a long video, it captured a big chuck of the whole ceremony. It was very nice for me to view and recall it. Not a tailored video for viewers but more for memories for my family members.
Baptism is only the start and to welcome the baby into the kingdom of God. We as the parents have to continue the journey to bring him along of building the faith and grow together as a catholic family. wasn't born a catholic, hence I'm still learning the faith myself. But I'm awfully thankful and blessed for all the love I've been given. I will make it a point to pray every morning, and soon, I'll be teaching my 2 sons to learn how to pray together.
